Olympic Model Railroad Society
Established in 1975, the Olympic Model Railroad Society has been promoting the fun of model railroading to the residents of Western Washington through its proudest accomplishment, the "Olympic Mountain Rail System" model railroad. Located at the Thurston County Fairgrounds, the "Olympic Mountain Rail System" is a large, double decked HO Scale layout, built, maintained, and presented by the society's membership.

OMRS membership is open to everyone interested in model railroading regardless of skill level or experience, and meets on Thursdays and Saturdays for club activities. Members run trains on Thursdays from 7:00pm - 9:00pm and on Saturdays from 10:00am - 12:00pm (Noon). Membership meetings are held Monthly on the first Thursday of the month virtually via zoom. For more details and schedules, visit us on our Facebook page.

We're located in the basement of the "Heritage Building" at the Thurston County Fairgrounds at 3054 Carpenter Rd SE, in Lacey. The Heritage Building is the first building you'll encounter as you enter the parking lot, and the entrance to the club is on the right hand side of the building.

At a glance

The Olympic Model Railroad Society's HO scale layout features 11 scale miles of double main line on three levels. The club's home has been it's current location for nearly 40 years and was originally a modular layout. In the early 1990s the club began a permanent installation in this space in the back part of the room by the furnace. Over the years, the layout has expanded to take over the entire space in the basement. We proudly refer to our layout as the "Olympic Mountain Rail System".
